Is this heaven?... It’s Iowa
Infotech, Bentley Systems, and Minnesota DOT
Tuesday, September 17
1:00 - 1:30 PM
Location: S-E
In order to “ease his pain,” Todd Bergland, MnDOT formed a team with a quest to automate quantities, funding, and estimation. The team of AASHTOWare, Bentley, and Infotech have been working on Quantimate. Our motto “if you build it, they will come,” has four lead states up to bat and 13 others currently on deck. The vision is near real-time estimates as pay items and quantities are added or changed in a design model (2D or 3D). The team is dedicated to “going the distance.” The pitch will show what we have accomplished since IHEEP in Utah.
“Is there a heaven? Oh yeah, it’s the place dreams come true” - so please join us and see how we are making transportation agency dreams come true.
Reaching for the Sky: Montana Digital Delivery Data Exchanges, Design to Construction Technical Session
Infotech, Autodesk, and Montana DOT
Wednesday, September 18
8:00 - 8:30 AM
Location: S-D
If an objective assessment of where agencies are digitally was done today, most would find within the vertical paths nearly every organization has progressed quite well over the past 10 years. But how well do you communicate among the silos? Most often, not very efficiently. Design has seen tremendous gains in modeling, information-rich designs, efficiencies, collaboration across disciplines, and so on. Construction is progressing with machine control, inspection, and automation in construction management, even changing the world with alternative contracting methods. Even the estimators improved historical pricing models to meet the needs of agencies and our changing environment. How do we bridge the abyss among these vertical silos and improve the collaboration from planning to design to construction and what can we do to move this on into operations and maintenance? This presentation will look at how the Montana Department of Transportation has brought some of its key technology providers – Autodesk and Infotech – together to address the industry needs of integrating and improving collaboration through the asset Lifecycle. This presentation will show the efficient transfer of information across that chasm by integrating design and construction. The session will conclude with the next steps in the asset lifecycle and a glimpse of the future.
Connecticut DOT’s Connected Data Environment
Infotech and Connecticut DOT
Wednesday, September 18
9:10 - 9:40 AM
Location: S-D
As the engineering and construction world traverses the paradigm shift to managing a full asset lifecycle, we must make adjustments to our norm. We are beginning to realize that we have a tremendous amount of useful data within each phase of the asset - planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and then back to planning. How do we connect that data efficiently? Is the solution a single source of truth for all information, or is the answer data so well connected and managed (governed) we can provide the right data, to the right people, at the right time for the right purpose? CTDOT’s Atlas program purpose is to do exactly this, serving as a true connected data environment, bringing AASHTOWare Project Estimation information into CTDOT’s COMPASS and then incorporating design and construction data. Compass brings design, construction, geospatial, and asset data together, capturing digital as-builts to feed asset management protecting the governance and provenance of the data. This presentation will show how CTDOT and Infotech are working together to provide this connected data environment using open data protocols and APIs to serve the needs of the State of Connecticut transportation users.
The War for Productivity: A Roadmap for Innovation in Civil and Infrastructure Workforce Development
Infotech and Iowa State University
Wednesday, September 18
3:15 - 3:45 PM
Location: S-FGH
In an era defined by rapid technological advancement and shifting demographics, the civil and infrastructure industry faces unprecedented challenges and opportunities in workforce development. As we stand on the cusp of transformative change, it's essential to navigate the evolving landscape of talent planning, utilizing digital workers, upskilling, and organizational adaptability. This session delves into the heart of these issues, exploring the seismic shifts in workforce dynamics, the integration of generative AI, and the continued imperative for human-centered leadership. Drawing from insights across industries and emerging trends, and making parallels to the interconnected nature of our industry - integrated project delivery and open data standards - we'll uncover strategies to cultivate a resilient, agile workforce poised to thrive in the age of innovation.
Advanced Methods for Collecting Accurate Field Data During Construction Inspection & How They Relate to Intelligent Digital As-Builts
Infotech and Trimble
Wednesday, September 18
4:25 - 4:55 PM
Location: S-E
Construction inspectors play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality, safety, adherence to budgetary constraints, and regulatory compliance of infrastructure projects. Their diligent observation, documentation, and communication throughout the construction phase of a project’s life cycle are instrumental in guaranteeing that completed assets are durable and tailored to the requirements of the communities they serve. In today's landscape of complex infrastructure projects, involving a multitude of stakeholders and various technological tools, the ability to gather pertinent data efficiently in the field and distribute it seamlessly among all parties has become a key metric of project success. Empowering inspectors and contractors with enhanced digital data as part of their digital delivery workflows results in better utilization of digital designs for not only inspection but also constructability and improved as-built data for the O&M phase of a project.
During this session, two seasoned industry professionals, with extensive experience collaborating with numerous project owners and contractors, will delve into the advancements in both technology and procedures for accurate field observation collection and information sharing within an interconnected data framework. Given the diverse resource allocations among contractors, this session will explore two distinct approaches to precise geolocated field data collection.

Our Priorities

Interoperability
We’re all using digital tools - we just need those tools to talk to each other. That’s why we’re collaborating closely with industry leaders like AASHTOWare, Autodesk, Bentley Systems, Esri, Leica, Trimble, and more to support interconnected solutions based on seamless workflows and IFC standards.

Digital Jobsites
Our digital infrastructure should be as strong and reliable as the physical infrastructure we support. From concept through closeout, we help construction teams implement digital solutions that ensure data accuracy, automate time-consuming manual tasks, and increase the overall efficiency of the construction process.

Geospatial Data
The collection of precise, geo-located digital as-builts is crucial to lifecycle asset management. We work with GIS experts like Esri to integrate location data and construction data so that asset management teams have all the information necessary to keep built assets healthy and operational for years.

Workforce Development
There’s no doubt that workforce retention and development is an ongoing issue in our industry. We believe that by providing intuitive and innovative technological solutions, we can easily train a new wave of inspectors and project managers while enabling them to do more with less - without feeling the strain of a limited workforce.
